Over 70 and the 10% factor.

"doap" stands for dumb old ass person and is what I call myself when I commit a senior error like stumbling or dropping something.  For those of us over 70, Don Adams in "Get Smart" said it best when he would gesture with his fingers and say "missed it by thaaat much".  You reach for your full tumbler of ice water and push it over with the back of your hand.  You are over 70 so the 10% factor applies.  The 10% factor is easily explained.  Being over 70 you have lost 10% of your eyesight.  In addition, 10% of the feeling in your hand, 10% of your reaction time, 10% of your flexibility and at least 10% of your attention span.  Perhaps worst of all you have lost 10% of all those little muscles throughout your body which are supposed to automatically keep you standing, sitting or moving straight and level.  Considering just this amount of our 10% factors, it is a wonder we don't stagger around waving our arms like Frankenstein.  Perhaps after applying the 10% factor, others at the table should applaud the fact you only knocked over one tumbler.  But then the applause would be wasted because you have lost at least 10% of your hearing.  Somedays you may feel like a doap but don't let it get to you.  Just remember the 10% factor and marvel at the fact it was only one tumbler, or one stumble, or one release of something from your body...
